This
list should help you imrove your ear training, so that
you can easily figure out how to play songs yourself.
.
|
1. Listen
to the song at the piano |
- For
example, my computer speakers are right
next to my piano, so I use those. You can also use an
iPod, radio, laptop, etc.
- Hearing
the song live is much easier than trying to recall it
from your mind.

| 2.
Figure out the first note of the vocals |
- Start
with your right hand. Play the song
from the beginning of the vocals over and over.
- Guess
and check to find the first note. Pick any
note from the keyboard, and play it while the first
note of the song is playing.
- If
it's wrong, the note will clash, but if it's
right, they should sound good together.
--
You
can do this for the entire song, or you can try a faster
way listed below.
| 3.
Approximate distance between keys |
- If
the singer's voice gets lower, the next note is lower
on the keyboard. Same concept if it gets higher.
- If
the notes you sing sound similar, the keys are next
to each other.
- When
if the singer really has to change his/her voice to
sing the next note, the keys are far apart.
- Same
thing as step 2. To make it easier to hear the left
hand, try looking up an instrumental version
of the song.
- If
this is still too hard, try looking up guitar
tabs. The notes that they give is the pattern
for the left hand in piano.
- Learn
the intro (if any) usig steps 1 - 3. After that, you're
good to go.
